Windpumps of Southern Africa

Aermotor

Aermotors were first manufactured by the Aermotor Company of Chicago, Illinois in 1888. They were distributed in South Africa by Lloyds and Company of Burg Street, Cape Town.

In an advertisement in 1913 it was stated: “Wherever you go you see them, whenever you see them they go”.

After the second world war Andrag and Sons manufactured and distributed 8ft Aermotors until 1973.

They were also distributed by Poynton Bros of Pretoria.

Self-oiling models were introduced in 1915.
